Don’t Attach Anything To Car Seat Harness Straps!

We’ve all been there - you’re just trying to do errands or get through a road trip and your child keeps throwing their sippy cup or toy on the ground. You can’t reach it from the front seat, there’s no place to pull over, and your child is SO UPSET! After that happens a few times, you start looking for solutions.

It is so tempting to try to attach pacifier clips, bottle straps, or snack cup tethers to your child's car seat harness. There are so many products out there that seem like they are meant to be used this way. It seems like the perfect solution to keep them from dropping their food/water in the car, but attaching anything to your child's car seat harness is a safety hazard.

Car seat harness straps are only crash tested with the accessories provided by the manufacturer. The only items that should be on your car seat harness are the approved harness pads provided by the car seat manufacturer.

Anything attached to your child's car seat harness could stop the harness from tightening all the way, be driven into your child's body during a crash, and affect how the harness functions in a crash.

You can try a bracelet-style tether that goes around your child’s wrist, instead. But remember that anything attached to your child could rebound into their face during a crash. Try to keep car toys soft and light to avoid additional injuries!

Keep those kiddos safe - make sure you're not attaching any types of clips, straps, or tethers to the car seat or the car seat harnesses!
